Fennel Seed
Fennel is a member of the parsley family that provides an authentic Italian flavor to many dishes. The brownish seeds have an anice-like flavor, but more aromatic, sweet and less pungent than anise. It is the distinctive flavor in Italian Sausage. Toasting the seeds in a hot skillet accentuates their flavor.
Fennel seeds go well with fish, meatballs or meat loaf and especially tomato dishes and pasta sauces.
